Requested Features

Note: We will hear all out, but cannot promise all will be added

Browser Interface

Keyboard Shortcuts

  • “Be Right Back” and “Available” statuses (useful for librarians as they get up to help library users for a couple of minutes)
  • Access keys for navigation

Message Alerts

  • BUZZ!!! button with sound effect and flashing window.
  • Option to be alerted when a chosen buddy signs on (via sound and/or alert box).
  • Better new message notification, perhaps a flashing window in the task bar (Windows) or bouncing dock icon (Mac) if it is possible.
  • Shaking the chat window on “Buzz” or “Nudge”
  • More visible notification of new message recieved

Message Window

  • Add new line characters (Ctrl-Enter or Shift-Enter)
  • Message themes
  • Option to remove incoming text formatting from Buddies
  • Emoticon compatibility
  • Warn Button for IMing - Sort of like what the Meebo Rooms have.
  • “Pop-out” feature (A-la GMail Chat)
  • Change Only Part of the Text, when sending an IM
  • Disable All Media - Disable all media, and make links instead of showing media
  • An option to automatically 'pop-out' new chats.
  • Addition of the symbol font to allow easy typing of equations.
  • Right To Left support/alignment

Status Updating

  • “Now Playing” support for iTunes/Windows Media Player/Winamp, similar to Windows Live Messenger and Google Talk. Maybe meebo can get Now Playing information from last.fm :)
  • Custom available status messages

Account Management

  • Not showing the blog window if current entry has already been read, or an option to show/hide it in the Preferences.
  • Leave a session open, so that you can sign back on later, like Screen.
  • Automatic reconnect after network interruption
  • Optionally remove the 'Are you sure you want sign off?' prompt.
  • Open ID Support - See http://www.openid.net for details
  • Remember password and automatically sign on (or be compatible with browsers' “Remember Password” functionality).
  • Update Account Information in Prefs Menu - Another Tab 'Update Acct. Info' - Allow you to update Email, Username, Password, Ect.
  • If we sign on to meebo from another computer, our entire session should be moved to the new computer and it should auto sign off from our old computer. So if I leave my meebo logged in at work and go home, I could be getting messages from different users so there could be a different chat window open at work for each of those users. If I log in to meebo once I get home from work, meebo should auto sign off my session at work and sign in all my accounts and auto popup the chat windows at home that was previously open at work.
  • Ability to set avatars/display picture
  • Button to hide the accounts you are signed on to, possibly even the meebo logo, to make it look less like a chat/IM site to teachers/bosses.

Contact List

  • Display buddy icons in buddy list
  • To group the contacts by account then show the groups of each account.
  • Remember open/close (expand/collapse) status for groups across sign ons.
  • Sorting online contacts by status (Away/Busy drops to bottom)
  • Option to not use groups at all.
  • Close Offline group by default.
  • Option to disable static groups, and enable two dynamic groups: Online & Offline
  • Ability to search/find a user easily. This is helpful to users with large contact list. A search bar, where the user can type in part of nick name or username and instantly get a filtered result, is a good suggestion.
  • Move a buddy to another group in the buddy list.
  • View raw status of a connection. Much like Trillian status. For geeks 8)
  • Field in the profile for notes (so you can add in specific details/notes on various contacts in your list). This can be a Meebo only field, doesn't need to sync back to MSN/Yahoo etc…
  • Look up a user's name and possibly details when showing the message that someone added you to their buddy list and other similar messages.
  • Interface to manage buddy list, doesn't have to be integrated to heavily into main window.
  • Buzz, Poke, or Nudge Button.
  • Group offline users under the groups they belong to instead of one “Offline” group. So each group will have their own subgroup of offline users and allow us to toggle between showing offline users or not
  • Allow editing/adding of Buddy notes (A-la AIM “Buddy Comments”)
  • Button description/title that pops up on mouseover does not change when cursor position changes (“Remove Buddy” to “Add Buddy” etc.)

Protocol Management

  • Support for Yahoo's multiple profiles/screen names in one account. Right now, it doesn't seem possible to use any ID other than your 'primary' ID.
  • Individual Account Invisibility/Availability
  • Notification when MSN profiles have changed
  • Ability to sign on to only a few of the accounts a meebo user has.

Protocol Support

  • Twitter
  • IRC
  • Skype (messaging)
  • MySpace
  • Google Hosted accounts under GTalk/Jabber protocol
  • Internal meebo im network - such as the ability to use standard im features with other meebo users (like buddies, profiles, etc.). possibly also use technology similar to that used in rooms from media.
  • Ability to connect to the chat (whisper) feature in World of Warcraft
  • Connect to Clan, and Buddy Chat Features in Runescape.

Web Browser Appearance

  • Tabbed interface
  • Custom skins
  • Ability to close the main meebo window and remain signed on from a popped-out buddy list window.
  • Launch meebo in 'chromeless' window (see chromeless meebo browser v0.5 - now based on .Net 2.0!)
  • Background colors and/or wallpapers
  • Chat window cascading/tiling
  • Make the corners of the IM window transparent. Presently only works for light colored sites.

Meebo Rooms

  • Change Username color in Meebo Rooms - Choose, and Change the Color of your Username in a Meebo Room.
  • Become Invisible in Meebo Rooms - Be able to become invisible in Meebo Rooms.

Non-IM Uses

  • Web Cam Chat
  • Simple RSS reader. You can get RSS via IM using Feed Crier.
  • PC to PC VOIP conversations (LibJingle?)
  • Incorprate more things into area behind the windows through the use of widgets like a calendar or “to do list”.
  • Sticky notes

External Web Interface

  • Meebo User Profile Pages
  • Make and change a personal profile that other users can see
  • Some form of online indicator button that can be inserted on a webpage - possily with the ability to show a Meebo me chat box or a customizable link to i.e. a MySpace profile or the like when clicked.
  • To chat with people that use meebo and is seeing the same web as you are (like chatsum extension).
  • Add to Any on meebo's homepage
  • Disable Change Meebo Me Widget Username.
  • One Widget but many Recipients. See the thread on the forum: http://forum.meebo.com/viewtopic.php?p=101929
  • When chatting with someone via the widget if you send a link to the person using the widget the link isn't clickable even though it is in the trascript later.
  • On meebo me, please add the ability for multiple users to sign on to one account. This is useful for real-time customer service on an e-commerce site. It would be incredibly helpful to allow multiple agents to sign on simultaneously to field questions. This may involve some type of Administrator area where the master user could invite other meebo users to “join” the master account and be able to answer messages. This feature would also allow agents to collaborate on a question where one has knowledge that another does not.
  • On meebo me, introduce support for chat rooms so that all users on the current page are effectively on the same chat room and can communicate. This would be great for a collaboration project where people set up mini projects with around 5-10 members, who would need an easy way to chat with one another when on the project's home page. Such feature would potentially need to support creating multiple chat rooms for a given site (to reflect many small user communities).

IM Archiving

  • Forward daily chat logs per person to my email (Gmail search anybody? ^_^).
  • Button to email conversation to user
  • A download url for chat histories, or integration with Google Desktop Search, so that chat histories can be searched.
  • Make it possible to delete selected sections of chat logs.
  • Access offline messages
  • Access chatlog from pidgin, and merge with pidgin logs (import/export)
  • Chat logs export.
  • Off-The-Record IM (already available as a pidgin lib) http://otr.cypherpunks.ca/
  • Support online logs consolidators (such as http://www.dexrex.com/, http://www.im-history.com/, http://simkl.com/) or provide a similar service with an open API and plugins for popular IM clients.
  • Listing chat logs history, by user, then by date (both), is better than listing them all in a row by user. Week by week archive, or Ajax timeframe/user adjustment. Example: 3 column layout, left column - user, middle column - date period (weekly listing), right column - chat logs. User would discreetly select at least one of the two columns (Also, hold down Ctrl key to select multiple weeks or multiple users) or both to display appropriate filtered chat logs.
  • Gears Support - Nothing fancy like worker threads (though that is a cool technology), I was actually just thinking the “desktop API” would be an easy and logical fit. Gears support is built into Chrome which is what got me thinking about it, I've already implemented a “create desktop shortcuts” button that shows up for any user with Gears in my enterprise webapp, and now I'm wondering why more webapps don't do this. There is also work being done in the Gears community to create desktop (Outlook style) notifications which would be perfect for Meebo, so getting users used to installing the gears plug in could be a smart move for Meebo.* AIM Direct Connection (for in-window file sharing).

Software Compatibility

  • Standalone Meebo Client
  • Gadget for Google Desktop
  • A Meebo-branded browser would be cool for surfing the internet without ever having to leave your Meebo page. Tabbed browsing would be a nice feature also. Like a browser within a browser. (I'm sure you get the picture by now…) See The Meebo Browser Page
  • Create Opera widget, implementing the functionalities of meebo.
  • Windows Mobile Compatibility
  • Palm Compatibility
  • Opera DS Compatibility
  • Support for the Wii web browser.
  • New message notification by icon in System Tray
  • Include a taskbar at the bottom of the meebo page, similar to the Windows taskbar. This should have an icon for Buddy list, another icon for meebo blog window, self-adjusting buttons for the open conversation windows, Sign on, Sign off icon, and clock :)

Firefox Extension

  • Use meebo standalone from the sidebar without a page open
  • Hide offline people
  • Hide away people

Meebo Development Interaction

  • Have only one account for meebo Messenger, Forum and Wiki.
  • Meebo Wiki Update/Change Email notice
  • Meebo Forum Update
  • Different Meebo Forum Email Notification

Meebo Marketing

  • Meebo Welcome Email
  • Meebo Newsletter
  • Co-brand meebo with an external site (B2B paid solution)

Widgets

  • Allow the specifying of a base guest login name, so for example if you have a meebo widget behind a login, you can pass the logged in user name to the widget and use that instead of meeboguest{x}
  • Small HTML or PHP widget that will allow me to show one icon if available and a different icon if unavailable, so that people can see at a glance if I am available before they open a chat window.
